As November 5th approaches, we wanted to give you our top picks of the best and budget-friendly Bonfire Night displays for students in Manchester. Filled with scorching bonfires, sparkling fireworks and tasty treats, Bonfire Nights offer a perfect opportunity to fill your weekend and give you a chance to relax, have fun and take a break from studying.
For those who aren't familiar, Bonfire nights are a tradition that date back to the 1600’s. To celebrate the failed attempt of Guy Fawkes and his group to blow up the House of Parliament in London back in 1605, the night of November 5th is commemorated each year with bonfires and fireworks.
And as a few Bonfire Night events have been canceled this year, we’ve put together a list of the best Bonfire Nights happening in Greater Manchester for Salford students to enjoy. Let's check them out!
Buile Hill Park Fireworks Display is a FREE event happening on Saturday 4th November 2023. On top of a main fireworks display, the event is filled with luminous sculptures, tasty food and drink vendors, live music, a funfair and a fire walk!
No bonfire?! No problem! This year, there are fire pits where you’ll be able to roast marshmallows (even better!?).
Gates open at 16:00, with a smaller firework display happening at 17:30, followed by a firecracker display at 18:30 and finally the main firework show at 19:30. With this event being located in the heart of Salford, it's an easy walk or bus ride away from our main campus!

Prince’s Park Irlams is also a FREE event happening on Sunday 5th November 2023. Bonfire Night at Prince’s Park Irlam will include both a traditional bonfire and fireworks display, along with a funfair, and yummy food and drinks for sale.
Gates open at 17:00, with the bonfire lit at 19:00, followed by a firework display at 19:30. While Prince’s Park is located in Greater Manchester, it's an easy bus ride from Salford University or alternatively a quick train ride from Manchester city center!

Oldham’s Big Bang Bonfire is a large and FREE Bonfire Night happening on Thursday, the 2nd of November 2023. Known to be a big, loud and colorful Bonfire Night, Big Bang Bonfire is an fun-filled event. The night includes entertaining duels and fire dancing shows, delicious food stalls, a fairground, and a massive musical firework finale.
The event starts at 17:00, with the stage and fire show starting at 18:00, followed by the bonfire lighting at 18:05 and the fantastic firework finale at 19:00. While it is located in Oldham, in Greater Manchester, the 30 minute drive or less than an hour train ride is definitely worthwhile.

Fireworks & Fire Garden at Mayfield Park presented by Freight Island is an exciting and show-stopping event happening on both Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th of November 2023. With tickets ranging from ÂŁ8-ÂŁ12, it's worth the price.
This year's event includes a fire garden of hand-crafted sculptures, a fantastic range of kitchens and bars, live music, and of course an incredible fireworks display.
The event on Saturday opens at 17:30, with the show starting at 18:30, with a second session opening at 19:30 and with a show starting at 20:30. And on Sunday, the event opens at 18:00, with the show starting at 19:00. Located within Manchester city, it's a quick and easy commute to Mayfield park.

Bowdon Bonfire is a fantastic event happening on Friday 3rd November 2023. Tickets range from ÂŁ8-ÂŁ15, and it's worth every penny. This year's Bonfire Night includes a massive bonfire, three stunning firework shows, a variety of stalls, fun fair rides, and tons of delicious BBQ, drinks and sweet treats.
Gates open at 18:00, followed by the children’s fireworks show at 19:00, the lighting of the bonfire at 19:20, the main bonfire display at 20:00 and the grand finale firework show at 20:45. While located in Altrincham, in Greater Manchester, it is also an easy 30 minute drive or less than an hour train ride.
