The Students’ Union is now looking for volunteers to become Denizen reps for the coming academic year. Denizen is the Union’s accommodation support network which aims to help students settle into life at Salford and to support them with any problems they may face throughout the year. If you are returning to live in Peel Park Quarter, John Lester and Eddie Colman or Bramall Court, then you can apply!
The role involves supporting students in your residence with any issues they have during the year, such as feeling homesick, having problems with their course, money worries as well as other personal issues. The reps will also be able to signpost students to relevant services that can support them; in the Union, University or externally. Denizen reps also sit on the Residents’ Committee, which meets once every semester. Denizen reps will go to these meetings and liaise with accommodation providers, the Students’ Union and the University, to give students living in accommodation a say. Denizen reps can also hold their own events in the accommodation, and organise teams for their residences to compete in the Students’ Union’s Halls Varsity challenge.
If your application is successful, you will need to attend the training sessions in October, which will equip you with the knowledge needed for the role, and then commit just 1-2 hours of your time each week.
All of our Denizen reps will receive exclusive offers on food and drink in Atmosphere Kitchen and Bar throughout the year, as well as free entry to Union events and a free hoodie.
If you think this is for you, and are interested in becoming a Denizen rep, just complete the short application form, and we will be in touch soon.
