The day started with a team meeting with the Interim CEOs to look at the team dynamics. It was a fruitful meeting, which was aimed at ensuring professionalism and proper representation. This lasted for over two hours.
Immediately after the meeting, I jetted out for another meeting which lasted for an hour. This was about ensuring that students gain more than just a degree, and be more employable in the labour market. With just a 20 minutes break, I moved to another meeting which was about the new University strategy in ensuring industrial collaboration for students to gain skills. This is however peculiar to the schools I represent (ELS, SOBE and CSE). Again, this lasted for one hour, thirty minutes.
Without break, I ran to another meeting which I was meant to mediate in integrating a student back into his study. This was also fruitful and all parties concerned were happy. I finished the day’s duties around 4.45pm. That was when I had time to attend to myself and my numerous emails.
The day started on a good note. I had time to read my emails and respond as appropriate. At 11am, I was at the library to tutor some students which I was delighted I did. I guess am living my name (Professor VIRUS) because I actually want to become a Professor, and this is a good step in the right direction and it is something I am passionate about. This lasted for one hour, fifteen minutes. From the library, it was a relay race to Allerton building, Frederick road campus for the University’s 50th anniversary planning between the union and the university. It was a meeting full of brilliant ideas. This ended at 2pm.
Thank God, I had an hour break. At 3pm, I returned to Allerton for an AMP procedure which took roughly an hour. On my return to the office, I already have several messages calling for attention in my mail box. Yippee, the day closed.
Gosh, it was early morning leadership training which started around 10am. Although, scheduled to end at 4.30pm, it ended at around 1.30pm because the sabbatical officers had other engagements. At 3pm, I was at Peel building where I met with a lecturer for the planning of a career day for the students. She was so willing and pleased to work with the students’ union in planning this event. More details will be revealed as we go on.
Basically, I was in a high-level recruitment panel all day.
I met with the University’s Chief Information Officer on developing the digital framework of the University which is focused at improving student experience. A brief catch-up with the Dean of Student Affairs followed. The big one which is the University council meeting took the bulk of the day. This started at 2pm and ended at exactly 5pm.
