It was quite obvious that the year is coming to an end. My day started on a lighter note. I was able to respond to my emails and plan for the day and week. The first business of the day was the Union Council meeting which started at 2.00pm. Issues around environmental sustainability on campus, car parking, TEF and other students matter were discussed with very good outcomes. It was awesome seeing students contributing meaningfully to the discussion tabled before the council.
The council meeting ended at 4:00pm and as usual, I have emails waiting in my mail box seeking for attention.
As the University is preparing to welcome another set of students in January 2017, the Union also put in place a meeting to discuss our readiness to receive the students. Something great is waiting for the January starters. Don’t be jealous, returning students are also welcomed.
At 12:00 noon, I was at Peel building to meet with ELS school rep and also chat with students who might have issues they want us to address as students body. Thanks to all those who showed up. From Peel building, it was another meeting with the Dean of Student Affairs which is also about making sure students get the best out of Salford in terms of experience and engagement. After then, I was out there seeking for students’ opinion on what “EXCELLENT TEACHING” mean to them. You can share your thought by visiting www.salfordstudents.com/TEF.
Sigh!!! I can tell you that representation is not an easy job, but we promise to deliver on our mandate as sabbatical officer.
With little on my schedule, I was out again getting students thought on excellent teaching. At 2:00pm, it was the ELS school quality and student experience committee (SQSEC) meeting which I attended alongside the school rep as student representatives. I’m happy that we are getting good feedback from students about engagement. However, there are some issues raised by us which the school promised to look into.
For the past few months, the Union has been supported by two interim CEOs after the resignation of the former CEO. Now, it was time for them to leave us. The day started off with a leaving do just to appreciate their efforts in moving the Union forward.
At 12.00 noon, I was at a University council committee meeting where I represented the President of the Union. At 2:00pm, I was at another University committee meeting where issues about students’ experience were discussed and will further be presented to the University Council for action.
Thank God is Friday but I woke to an early morning student voice meeting which lasted for over an hour. A catch-up meeting with a PGR Rep and School operation manager also followed.
And this is just a bit of how the week was used to represent YOU.
If you have any concern, query or you want the Union to do more on some things, kindly send an email to ussu-vpst@salford.ac.uk.
Have a lovely weekend guys :)
