Starting uni as a commuter student 🚙

Life at university can feel a little overwhelming to begin with - especially as a commuter student.

At times it can feel almost as if you’re missing out, #FOMO, not having to furnish a new place of your own for the next year, or potentially more.

On the plus side, at least you won’t have to force yourself to make friends with flat mates 🙌.

Freshers' week can also be a little tricky when the university isn’t in your hometown, where you’re staying, having to find suitable modes of transport and having to carefully plan things out beforehand. Although, Freshers at home can work well with those you’ve known throughout your childhood, entering this new chapter together – CUTEE.

A good way of making new friends at university is by ensuring you’re in any group chats for your year group and your course, which can help build a foundation of people you can look forward to meeting in person on campus.

Attending as many events as possible and signing up to any societies you might be interested in can also help you find individuals with similar interests too.

When on campus, as well as both libraries, there is also an array of study spaces which can be found in most buildings as well as kitchens. These can be used as a place for you to situate yourself in and use between lectures to get work done, or simply take time out and have a break – the perfect place to arrange a study date with friends!

Key things to remember:

  • Look at rail cards as these can cut the cost of train journeys.
  • There’s an array of car parks surrounding the university campuses depending on which is nearest to where you need to be.
  • The number 50 bus is FREE for all Salford Students to and from the Media City and Peel Park campus.

Finally, make sure to make the most out of your time here at uni and your SU will be here to support you! 😊
