Our friends in University Security work hard to ensure every student and their belongings are as safe as possible during their time here on campus. However, no matter where you go, there are some individuals who will unfortunately attempt to steal your hard-earned stuff.
It’s important to us that we’re helping as many students to avoid this eventuality and make our campus a safer place. With that in mind, please read on for some bicycle security news and advice!
There have been a number of recent bike thefts around campus. All of those had been secured with a range of bike locks, however they evidently didn’t cut the mustard! See below for the types of lock used.
TOP TIP – invest in a ‘D Lock’ to keep your bike as secure as possible:
There are three new bike shelters (the ones with wooden slats) next to Clifford Whitworth Library, and two next to the New Adelphi building. Work is underway to ensure these new shelters are fully secure; a number of bikes were stolen from within and so they have been closed this work is completed.
You can still use the shelters at the side of Peel, the Sports Centre or within Lowry and Delaney accommodations. You will just need to have your access card updated to allow access. You can do this dead easily by presenting it at any of the reception desks at Maxwell Building, Allerton or The Crescent.
It is extremely important that you report any suspected thefts or similar concerns / crimes to the Security team as soon as possible. Security will also occasionally recover stolen items, so it is worth getting in touch if you want to check if your item has been recovered (often held at Maxwell security!)
You can get in touch with them directly by calling 0161 295 4773 or their Emergency number 0161 295 5333.
