It’s about time we raised a pom pom for Dom. For two years he's been a committee member for Cheer AND a Team Salford Activator. He runs his club, he runs free accessible cheer sessions and he runs circles around all of us. We caught up with the cheerleader who deserves a cheer.
I chose to become a Team Salford Activator and on committee for cheer to increase the recognition of cheerleading as a sport within the university. I also wanted to promote male involvement within the sport.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience as a student volunteer. It’s given me the opportunity to get involved with more Students’ Union activities. I’ve even gained a level 2 coaching qualification!
I’ve come a long way in terms of leadership and communication skills. As a Team Salford Activator I run my own sessions and coach individuals to reach their goal.
I found the leadership training interesting and it made me look at my leadership style from a different perspective.
You can gain confidence, leadership and coaching skills. After my volunteering experiences, my CV looks great! I have plenty to talk about in job interviews. The free gym membership is an extra benefit too.
“Dom is a great candidate for this reward as he goes above and beyond for his club and he deserves to be truly recognised for his graft. From moving mats across campus for club training to ensuring a balance between a fun and competitive environment within the club. Well done Dom.” Casey Blagg, Club Sport Coordinator
