We are a democratically run charity led by elected student representatives – working to represent students' academic interests and to make sure their University experience is the amazing, life changing experience it should be. We are independent of the University and work entirely for students. Our aim is to help you love your life at Salford. The Student Voice department ensures that student views are communicated to the University, whether that be through Student Reps, whom we train and support, or student-led campaigns to lobby for change.
PLEASE NOTE: Course Reps are recruited by their Programme Leader at the beginning of the academic year. Please only apply for this role if you have gone through your Programme Leader to obtain this position, and have attended training through the Students' Union.
Overview of the role:
Course Representatives play a crucial role in improving the student experience. They act as the point of contact between students on their programme and their Programme Leader. They also liaise with their School Rep to ensure that student issues and concerns are raised and dealt with at an appropriate level when they fall outside of their programme’s scope. They work in partnership with their Programme Leader to ensure the department is listening to, and acting on, student feedback to deliver an excellent student experience.
Responsibilities of the role:
o Attending training organised by the Students’ Union.
o Raising awareness of the Rep system, and the role of Course Reps, amongst peers.
o Collating feedback from peers on your course about their experience, face-to-face & online.
o Meeting with your Programme Leader every 3 weeks during term-time to discuss the
academic experience of students on the course.
o Thinking creatively about changes to teaching and learning in light of student feedback.
o Taking part in the student consultation for Periodic Programme Review and Re-approval
o Responding to requests from School Reps for engagement with wider research projects.
o Triaging students to other University and Students’ Union services when appropriate.
o Engaging with Students’ Union surveys and research.
